Rufus Will Weigh You Down

Rufus is the snooty, know-it-all, art critic that lives inside the mind of every artist.

When you think about getting your mind right to push forward, make progress, and get things done, what do you think about doing? This is an area where I struggled, especially as a wife and mother, for years.

Rufus doesn't want you to actually get your mind right, so he's going to make you feel like you can't be ready to work on anything personal if you haven't completed the 900 million tasks it feels like you need to do day-in and day-out just to handle things at home, at work, and wherever else.

Decision fatigue is real, and Rufus takes full advantage of it. Why make the decision on what to do when you know what needs to get done? That makes sense, right? It's logical. You're just being irresponsible by wanting to do something outside of that ever growing list of to-dos.

WRONG!

Tell Rufus to close his trap and take a hike. He just wants to weigh you down with all of the pressures and false perceptions that everything at home has to be perfect before you can do anything for yourself. Even when art is your career, he will try to bog you down with commissions and the idea that you have to be making money for it to be "worth it."

No, no, no.

What Rufus is doing is squashing you under the weight of a cleverly veiled toxic mindset. You NEED creative leisure and creative leeway to do something outside of house chores, commissions, work in the office, sales/marketing, and all the other tasks. That's not to say those tasks aren't important. It is just to say that personal time to sit and create is just as important. Elevate it in your mind to the same level as all of these other "worth-while" tasks, and you will be shocked how much everything benefits just from giving yourself a little freedom.
