Rufus is the snooty, know-it-all, art critic that lives inside the mind of every artist.
As a mother, when it came to not hardly getting anything done during the day, it usually revolved around my children. One of them was sick, hurt, going through a difficult time − something that needed more of my attention, love, and care. Even when the one suffering was at peace asleep, my mind was constantly pulled to their well being and status.
But you don't have to be a mother to care about someone or something enough that your mind gets pulled away from all other tasks at hand.
Rufus knows this, and he uses it mercilessly.
The more he can keep you distracted from accomplishing anything, even after the crisis has subsided, the harder it is to return to what you were doing.
Ever heard "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer?" Rufus believes in it whole heartedly. He knows what makes you tick, where your heart is at, and just exactly how to pull on those strings more than is normal to keep you on edge, distracted, and frazzled.
In the moment,...
...it can be difficult to decipher between what is just normal care and concern and what is Rufus's over exaggeration. This is a battle that you often have to lose a few times to truly learn how to fight back (or be very willing to get unfiltered input from an uninvolved third party).
Hindsight is 20/20,...
...and after you recognize Rufus's pattern, you'll feel disgusted toward his low blow tactics. But once you know, go ahead and post his eviction notice on the door to your heart. He doesn't belong there!
