Rufus Tricks You Into Ruminating

Rufus is the snooty, know-it-all, art critic that lives inside the mind of every artist.

That incessant voice in your head telling you you're not good enough?

Yeah...you're playing the constant mind game that Rufus wants to eat up all of your time with. ⏳ Because if you're too busy worrying about if you're good enough, the paintbrush slows, the creativity ceases to flow, and sooner, rather than later, you stop painting.

Take courage in knowing this happens to EVERY artist and in EVERY profession. And the dirty word that is associated with all of those thoughts running wildly in your head and taking you down a rabbit hole where you lack self-worth?

Rumination.

And oh, how Rufus loves to get you ruminating and on a negative downward spiral. 😑

You think that if you can just think it through and figure out where you're weakest or where you're lacking that you can fix it when you start. But that rapidly devolves into self-depreciation.

Humans have a habit of lingering on the negative. And trust me, WE ARE OUR OWN WORST CRITICS❗

Not a single negative thing that Rufus is running through your mind is something you haven't thought of or told yourself before.

But he will heckle you and heckle you and heckle you. 😒

Each time you let him get a foot in the door, he's going to start pressing for more and more of your mental space until he inhabits nearly all of your mind.

But the keyword is "nearly." Did you see it, or did Rufus try and block you?

He doesn't have the ability to inhabit all of your mind. 🤯

RUFUS IS LIMITED❗

He doesn't want you to know that, and he especially doesn't want that knowledge in your arsenal the next time he comes knocking.

Hold on to that "nearly." You still own the space in your mind and have the right to bring in or kick out whatever and whoever you choose.

YOU ARE IN CONTROL❗ 💪

The reason Rufus got in the door?

It's too simple to just say you let him in. You see, we tend to internalize all of the criticisms, all of the negatives, and Rufus smooth talks his way in by affirming them and giving false hope of a solution at first. Then, he works his way in the door and as a terrible guest, begins to wreak havoc.

DON'T OPEN THE DOOR❗

You know how it ends, and it's so much more difficult to kick him out than to tell him "no" from the security of your home. 🚪
