Prodigy? Likely Story

Let's go ahead and dispel this rumor right off the bat — talent is NOT hereditary!

 

If everything is easy and comes together seamlessly right off the bat, that is NOT the norm. In fact, many people struggle for what they are striving towards. It just so happens that most of the time we don't see the struggle because it is done in private.

 

Talent is not something you are born with. It is something that you build. It's the repetition, the routine, and the consistent struggle.

 

So honestly, if everything is coming easy right off the bat, you're at a disadvantage. By the time you reach something that challenges you, you have already been praised and puffed up by your mentors and peers to the point that failure seems like a death sentence. So how do you not fail? You never push yourself beyond what you're capable of accomplishing until you fizzle out because your once extraordinary work is now classified as mediocre.

 

On the other hand, if nothing is coming easily, you are struggling and striving each day for improvement. Each step up the mountain of your goals is progress. You've not tasted the victory of the mountaintop, but you've heard how sweet it can be. Your main challenge will be continuing to find the strength and the will to keep going.

 

My point is talent is a choice. And the choice you have to make?
