"The road to hell is paved with good intentions" is a phrase that comes to mind.
I generally lean toward...
...believing doing something is better than doing nothing. However, when you get in a hurry (especially in art) and just want to speed things up to check the box, ...goodness can the results be disastrous. While the actual product may not be "bad" to the eye, the long-term effects of hitting the easy and fast button show up in your tool belt, which no matter how crafty you get on using the easy and fast button − it WILL show up in your art.
On the other hand,...
...doing nothing at all when you have the opportunity to create, to practice, to grow has similar effects just through a different avenue. This can really hit home this time of year as many people have already gave up on their New Years' resolution. The intent was there, but the execution was lacking. All of the thought and intent in the world is worthless if you never put it into action.
Both scenarios come from a place of innocent intentions. It's the action (or lack thereof) that sets them apart, but either way, the conversation can be boiled down to this:
INTENTION IS NOT THE SAME AS DIRECTION.
If you want to become the best artist you can be, it requires work. Roads worth traveling aren't paved fast and easy, and they definitely aren't paved by talk or thought.
Nothing worth having comes easy. That's what makes it worth it.
