Own Your Gift

Life is meant to be shared. I think that artists recognize that the most in their profession. We have found our gift, but if we kept it hidden in the dark, who does that benefit?
We must put our essence on display in each piece because, without the connection to the viewer, it is easily overlooked.
But what about just giving it away? 🤔 Now, this is something that can be taken to an extreme.
Regardless of what realm of art is your primary profession, it is still that. A PROFESSION❗ Just because you have a gift does not mean it is free to anyone and everyone who asks for it.
Does a mechanic fix your car for free? The answer is a resounding no. 🙅♀️
I've met several artists that feel guilty for charging the going rate for their artwork. I have been that artist before too. Obviously, there are cases that are up to your discretion if you have a personal relationship with the client, but you still need to know your worth!
Just because art is considered a luxury item does not mean you need to just give it away. You have poured your heart and soul into becoming the artist you are today and the artist you want to be tomorrow.
