Did you know there is no such thing as perfect art?
😲 Did I say that?
Oh yes I did! Because there is this misplaced belief among artists that there can be no showcasing of artwork unless it is finished, unless it is unblemished, unless it is perfect. The artwork has to meet all of these lofty standards before it is considered to be "acceptable" to present.
That's right!
You meet all of these fake rules, regulations, and high standards just to get deemed "acceptable." What a slap to the face, right!?
A child's mocking tune actually fits well here. Can't you just hear him saying, "Why are you hitting yourself? Quit hitting yourself, quit hitting yourself, quit hitting yourself."
All of those rules, regulations, standards, and other constraints placed on artwork...well...usually they are self-inflicted burdens. Don't get me wrong. There are some art critics out there that will try to make you feel lesser than just because misery loves company, but most of the perceived barriers to entry are all in the artist's mind. I've been there, done that, and got the trash can of artwork to show for it.
When a child comes into the world, we don't expect that child to know how to do everything an adult can do. Art takes time to reach maturity and mastery, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't show your early works. In fact, in life, we usually do the opposite. We want to show off the babies and children, and the older we get, the more we hide away.
Is it to...
...leave the spotlight for the next generations? Or is it because we have placed previously unknown societal standards on ourselves of what is acceptable?
Let Me Just Tell You
We get more conscious and aware, and we strip ourselves of that child-like innocence and purity. We worry about being judged, but when you find the right community, it is just like a child feeling secure at home to learn, explore, and create.

...show your work unfinished. Show it blemished. Show it imperfect. In time, you will find the artists that make you feel at home.
