Deepen the Mystery

“The job of the artist is always to deepen the mystery.” Francis Bacon

Ever viewed paintings that leave you curious or at a loss for words? 🤔

Why did the artist choose that subject, that color palette, that expression, that (insert whatever you're thinking right here)?

When we know or see everything about a painting, it grows boring. But when you just can't quite place your finger on something about it, when it's at the tip of your tongue, when it's just beyond your reach, you're engaged! 🕵️‍♀️ You're trying to sleuth out the details you're missing yet you feel them.

This doesn't mean you have to create an abstract piece for your artwork to have some form of mystery. All it takes is a veil that covers the full truth from your viewer.

So, if you want your artwork to engage and stick in the minds of your viewers, deepen the mystery. 🔎

Hand-painted in Adobe Photoshop CC using the Wacom Intuos Pro and the Wacom Art Pen.
