Because Art is Free

“There is no must in art because art is free.” Wassily Kandinsky

I think we all know art isn't free to create, especially if you're buying the materials for an oil painting. 😬 And if you would like an artist to paint you something, it costs her time and money, so in most circumstances, it's going to cost you something as well. Yet, there are plenty of us who have seen art, whether online or in person, and it didn't cost us a dime. Why is that?

Usually, it's because a museum paid up to millions for each piece in order to preserve and protect pieces of history. The artwork acts like bookmarks through time for the culture and hints toward the story of how things truly were. There lies the true freedom in art.

Art is a free space to express thoughts and feelings about current events. These can be something as simple as a household event to as broad as the political climate or socioeconomic status of the country. Regardless, art makes a statement, and the saying "a picture is worth a thousand words" has proved true because thousands can be written on what has been uncovered from paintings across the globe.

So, art is not free in the sense of its costs. However, within it, lies freedom and endless possibilities.
