Environmental Portrait Masking!
Yes, It's POSSIBLE! And it looks NATURAL.

One of the most frequently asked questions I get -- Can I mask out a natural light image with strong backlight? Most often, people are unable to capture the intense rim-light in their mask because it is so different from the rest of the image. But with my combination of techniques, you should be able to capture most (if not ALL) of that backlit hair with ease! Then you can decide if you should tone down the rim (as in the left of the "after" image), or keep it as it was in the original capture (as in the right of the "after" image).

Quickly Alter Simple,
Inexpensive Studio Backgrounds...

All professional photographers know the expense of purchasing studio backgrounds. Let me show you how I create a file that I can use to easily and QUICKLY alter a basic grey poly-cloth. And the very best part? Once the work is done once, you can reopen the file and use it over and over!
HUGE time AND money saver!

Simple Sky Replacement

Let's start with the basics. This is a great image to learn simple sky replacement, but get ready -- in later lessons, it gets really complicated!

**BONUS SKIES DOWNLOAD**

From my personal collection, I'll share with you some of my favorite skies for use in sky transplants for your own images.
(*note: these skies are NOT legal for you to use in PPA Competitions)

Fluffy Golden Sunset

Mid-Day Fluff

Do you find crazy, wind whipped hair frustrating?

I once did too! But not anymore! Let me show you how easy it is to capture crazy, wind whipped hair in a mask so you can add the subject to the background of your choosing!

I know what you're thinking...
"This looks WAY too time consuming!"

I realize many of these images look like they would take f.o.r.e.v.e.r. to mask properly. The truth is -- most take only a couple of minutes! I'll show you how I took this beautiful bridal image from "ho hum" with a boring sky to "WOW!" in under 4 1/2 minutes! Just imagine the response of your clients when you deliver images that look like this!

What about when there is little or NO contrast between the subject and the background?

Sometimes you just have to accept defeat -- but not always! I know a trick or two that will occasionally allow you to pull detail from images that you'd never have imagined possible!

Taming Vibrant Colors

This is the kind of thing that used to make me want to curl into the fetal position. I LOATHED masking out brightly colored clothing to change the color! But once I learned this trick, my attitude toward this task totally changed!

**BONUS LESSON #1**

Since painted images are more forgiving to mask (painting hides a multitude of masking sins y'all!), I'll show you my favorite way to drop in a new background. It takes 60 seconds or less and gets me painting faster than ANY other method! It's not perfect -- but for painting, it doesn't have to be!

**BONUS BACKGROUND DOWNLOAD**

Thanks to the generosity of Heather the Painter, I am also going to include this digital download from her BRAND NEW traditional remixed digital background set! You can only get it for free here folks! (and you'll for sure want to check out her new backgrounds -- they're GORGEOUS!)

Masking Tulle

In the final lesson, we will tackle the most challenging thing to mask that I've ever encountered -- tulle! But not just any tulle, nearly blown out tulle! I'll show you how I retrieve the detail and then how to build the image, step by step, to get a gorgeous dramatic sky and transparent veil fabric!

Take a closer look...

**BONUS LESSON #2**

While I can't make masking a pageant crown "one click" simple, I can teach you some shortcuts that are significantly quicker and easier than all the hand masking that this task typically requires!
